On September 2 and 3, a team of 22 students from the Okayama University Dance Club and School of Education performed the “Bousai PiPit! Dance” at the “TOKYO Moshimo FES Shibuya” event held in Yoyogi Park, Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, under the theme of disaster prevention and disaster mitigation (sponsored by the National Federation of Workers Mutual Insurance Co-operative Associations (Kokumin Kyosai coop) and others).
“Bousai PiPit! Dance” was developed in 2019 as an industry-government-academia collaborative project under the supervision of Professor SAKO Haruko of the Faculty of Education, Okayama University and Kokumin Kyosai coop, with the aim of raising disaster prevention awareness by incorporating dance into disaster prevention education, which has been drawing renewed attention in recent years for its importance. The University has been working since 2020 to spread awareness in various settings in and outside Okayama Prefecture, including nursery schools, universities, and other school educational settings, as well as at local disaster prevention events.
The project has received various awards, including the "Special Award for Disaster Prevention Education" in the Cabinet Office's Disaster Prevention Education Challenge Plan for FY2021, as well as a special award in the "First Okayama University SDGs Promotion Award (President Award) for FY2020.
