From September 20 to 24, the women's handball club qualified for the All-Japan Intercollegiate Championships at the 62nd Men's and 50th Women's Chugoku-Shikoku Student Handball Tournament Autumn League held at the Matsue City Gymnasium (Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture).
In this tournament, 5 Chugoku-Shikoku universities (International Pacific University, Hiroshima University of Economics, Okayama University, Hiroshima University, and Yamaguchi University) in the Chugoku-Shikoku Student Handball LeagueⅠ(women) competed for the top 3 clubs to qualify for the All-Japan Intercollegiate Championships.
The University's women's handball club finished third in last year's 49th tournament and participated in the All-Japan Intercollegiate Championships for the first time in 16 years. This year, all members of the club have been practicing as one with the goal of "Winning the first round of the All-Japan Intercollegiate Championships". Vice-captain WATANABE Nanami (4th year, School of Agriculture) said, “I want to compete in the Intercollegiate Championships for the second year in a row with my favorite friends!” With this in mind, she has been cheerfully inspiring the club. “Let's be ourselves, cherish each and every match, and have fun!”
In their first game against Yamaguchi University, the club got off to a good start by scoring goals in quick succession. In the match against the International Pacific University, last year's champion, the club showed growth as a whole, such as a member who started playing handball at the university scoring in the match. Although there were some tears of frustration during the 5 days, they won a close match against Hiroshima University in the final game and came in third place. The club was able to proceed to the All-Japan Intercollegiate Championships!
In addition, NAKAMURA Rena (4th year, School of Education) was selected as one of the "Best 7" for the best player of this tournament. Ms. Nakamura said, “I am very happy to receive this honorable award. I have been playing handball for about 10 years, and I have never been more grateful for the environment around me. The club is made up of many people, including friends who work hard together, coaches, alumni, and parents. We will never forget our gratitude and will continue to work hard. Please support us!”
The club will participate in the All-Japan Intercollegiate Championship to be held in Hakodate, Hokkaido, from November 4 to 8. Let's look forward to achieving their goal of "Winning the first round of the All-Japan Intercollegiate Championships!
