TAKEDA Ren (2nd year, School of Economics) and EMOTO Mariko (2nd year, Faculty of Law), 2 members of the University's Shorinji Kempo Club, have been selected to participate in the 2023 World Shorinji Kempo Championships in Tokyo, Japan to be held at the Nippon Budokan on October 7 and 8!
The two were recommended as candidates based on the results of the Chugoku-Shikoku Student Tournament held in July of this year, and after a subsequent screening process, they were successfully selected to represent the All Japan Student Federation in the women's self-defense technique kyu-kenji division. The Women's Self-Defense Technique Division consists of male-female performance, in which the men attack in all configurations, while the women act as defenders and perform the final Kiwame.
This is the first time in 6 years that this competition has been held. The first day is the national qualifying round, and those who win the qualifying round on the first day are eligible to participate in the main competition on the second day.
Mr. Takeda said, “I am very honored to be able to participate in the world competition. I want to perform as I always do, calmly and without hesitation.” Ms. Emoto expressed her enthusiasm for the World Championships, saying, "I will do my best to show the results of what I have learned from the coaches and seniors and the practice I have put in.
