On July 10th, ten educators from Lesotho, Botswana, Zambia, Nigeria, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Eswatini in Sub-Saharan Africa paid a courtesy visit to Dr. SUGA Seiji, Executive Director for Academic Affairs.
The educators visited Japan to participate in the Knowledge Co-Creation Program (Group and Region Focus) on "Improvement of Quality Teaching and Evaluation Methodology in Primary Science and Mathematics for Sub-Saharan Africa", which is entrusted to our university by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The aim of the program was to implement and promote high-quality science and mathematics education in Sub-Saharan African countries. During the courtesy visit, the participants presented the educational situation and challenges in their respective countries and what they have hoped to gain from this training program. In response, Dr.Suga encouraged them and said "I trust you can learn a lot from this program".
During the three-week training program at our university, the participants visited the elementary school affiliated with our School of Education and other primary schools to observe, analyze, and to hold mock classes. After returning to their home countries, they practice what they learned in their lessons and verify them online. Through a hybrid training program including both face-to-face and distance learning, the participants learned practical teaching methods of science and mathematics classes.
