October 24, 2023

On October 8th, Okayama University's rowing club participated in the 67th Chugoku Student Boat Championship held at the Ashida River Rowing Course in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture. They achieved remarkable results, winning the women's coxed quadruple sculls and securing 3rd place in the men's single sculls and men's double sculls events.

In the women's coxed quadruple sculls, the team consisted of Hosoda Kana (1st-year, School of Economics), HAMANAKA Hiroko (1st-year, Faculty of Law), NAKANO Chiyomi, SAKAMOTO Saori (both 1st-year, Discovery Program for Global Learners), and KAMIO Hana (2nd-year, School of Agriculture). In the men's single sculls, NOZAKI Masahito (4th-year, School of Education) competed, and in the men's double sculls, MORI Ryusei (2nd-year, School of Agriculture) and HIRAKI Kota (1st-year, School of Engineering) represented Okayama University.

The competition was fierce, with teams from Hiroshima University, Tottori University, Ehime University, Shimane University, Yamaguchi University, and Hiroshima Institute of Technology, in addition to Okayama University, participating. The final race of the women's coxed quadruple sculls was a close battle with competitors, but our team managed to maintain their composure, rowing to victory.

For the 1st-year members, this was their second or third race since joining the club, and although nervousness was apparent in some aspects, they showed significant growth compared to their first race in July and the Kansai Student Rowing Championship.

Following the results of this competition, the rowing club captain, Mori, expressed his joy, saying, "We are pleased to achieve good results in our first race under the new team organization. However, we are not satisfied with these results. We aim for greater heights and are determined to train hard every day to achieve even better results in the Kansai Student Autumn Championship scheduled for November."
