Okayama University SDGs Ambassadors Host Sustainable Festa

November 29, 2023

On November 18, at the front plaza of the Tsushima Campus Administration Building, the "Sustainable Festa" was held by the Okayama University SDGs Ambassadors. This event, organized for the first time to facilitate interaction among SDGs Ambassadors, featured booths from various groups, each incorporating different sustainable elements.

Four groups recognized as official activities of the Okayama University SDGs Ambassadors - "Okayama University TABLE FOR TWO," "Frontier School," "Copain," and the "Ambassador Operations Club" - participated along with four other groups: "Okayama Baton," "Arachne (Entrepreneurship Club)," "Global Market (International Student Support Practice)," and additional volunteers from local high schools.

The booths showcased a variety of items, such as sweet potatoes from Yakegacho used to make daigakuimo (candied sweet potatoes), yakitori (grilled chicken) and nikuman (steamed buns) with proceeds donated, drinks nearing expiration dates focusing on food loss, sales of handmade goods created by local elderly individuals, disaster prevention game experiences, and a flea market. Additionally, panel exhibitions were set up to introduce the initiatives of each group.

On the first floor of the Main Building, a participatory handprint art activity was arranged for exhibitors and visitors. Under the theme "What Are You Doing in 2030?" participants left their handprints and messages, resulting in a vibrant, large art piece.

Students who operated the booths expressed their thoughts, saying, "It was a great opportunity to interact with other groups. The relationships among our members also deepened," "We were able to interact with students and the general public, sharing our activities with many people," and "We had more visitors than expected, and I felt that more people got to know about SDGs Ambassadors."

The exchange from this event will be utilized in future SDGs activities, contributing to the overall activation of SDGs Ambassadors.
