Gold and Silver Medals in the All Japan Men's / All Japan Junior Powerlifting Championships
The 42nd All Japan Men's Powerlifting Championships and the 32nd All Japan Junior Powerlifting Championships were held from May 31 to June 2 in Kobe. Medal winners from Okayama University were Yoshito Nishimura (fifth year medical student), who took gold, Anna Sato (second year, Matching Program Course), who won silver, and Akari Teramoto (third year legal student), who also won silver. Nishimura and Teramoto will compete for Japan in the world championships to be held from August 26 to September 1 in the USA.
The Powerlifting Championships is competed based on the total (T) of three lifts: the squat (S), bench press (B), and the dead lift (D). The Junior Women's division is decided by the Formula Total (FT) derived from multiplying this total by the formula coefficient taken from each competitor's weight. Nishimura, who set new national records in the squat, dead lift and bench press, received the top prize for the men's division for the championship (MVP, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's trophy).
