Okayama University was selected on August 6 as one of the institutions to receive support under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's program for promoting enhanced research universities.

This program was started this year with the aim of promoting the research capabilities of tertiary institutions and supporting exceptional research activities of a world-class level. Twenty-two universities and inter-university research institutes have been selected, including our own university.
Okayama University is energetically striving to realize its aim of becoming a Research University: with the assignment of research administrators (URA), analysis of research markets inside and outside Japan, analysis of its own research capabilities and selection of core research areas. This decision will spur us to push forward our transformation towards innovative research with strategic support for top researchers and further enhancement of core research fields, establishing a position for Okayama University as a competitive global research university.
