Okayama University participated in the Asia’s largest Bio event, “BIOtech Japan 2014 - the 13th International Bio Technology Exhibition & Conference” held at Tokyo Big Sight from May 14 to 16. Its members presented and exhibited the latest research achievements in the fields of cancers, immunity, vaccines, medicine, diagnostic products, medical treatments, diagnostic devices, and innovative drug development.
Research achievements of seven researchers including Assistant Prof. Yasuhiro Miyake (Okayama University Hospital), Prof. Masahiro Nishibori (Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences) and Prof. Heiichiro Udono(same before) were introduced. Assistant Prof. Miyake discovered a protein giving rise to anti-tumor effects in human blood. Prof. Nishibori developed a new treatment for sepsis and multiple organ failure which is of much higher mortality rate even in the intensive care unit. Prof. Udono discovered that Metformin, used for treatment of type II diabetes, has effects to revert exhausted T-cells within tumor tissue, and gives rise to anti-cancer effect. They exhibited their achievements using large panels to people visiting the booths. They also gave oral presentations to a large audience at the academic forum.
At the business partnering room in the event hall, they energetically had an exchange of views and consultations towards the implementation of joint research and technology transfer with medical and pharmaceutical related organization members interested in their researches.
Organization for Research Promotion & Collaboration of Okayama University will continue to actively support the participation of its members in exhibitions in order to promote and spread our research achievements and to transfer technology in the future.
