The number-one person in computer vision research, Dr. Takeo Kanade who is a U.A. and Helen Whitaker University Professor at Robotics Institute-Carnegie Mellon University, visited our university. He gave a lecture with the title, “Computer vision research with fun and instrumental robots” at Okayama University 50th Anniversary Hall on July 18th.
Approximately 400 young researchers and students listened as Professor Kanade presented leading-edge research such as the new video broadcasting technology that uses many cameras and became the topic of conversion on live telecast during the American Football’s championship tournament. He also talked about his own research philosophy.
On the preceding day, a round-table conference, “America’s strategy towards university education, research, and administration” with Professor Takeo Kanade was held at the same Anniversary Hall. Professor Kanade said such things as “A bottom-up style is fundamental in America where research is managed privately by professors.” Attendees asked questions and opinions with regards to efforts being conducted in the US toward the improvements in educational ability by teaching staff.
