Okayama University held an opening ceremony on May 9 at the Shikata Campus for the Neutron Therapy Research Center which was established this year in April.
At the opening ceremony, President Hirofumi Makino, Neutron Therapy Research Center Director Daiji Takeuchi and others unveiled the posted plaque dedicating the new center. About 50 other people connected with the university attended the ceremony as well. President Makino delivered the address, saying “Through the development of new medical technology, we hope to help everyone.”
In addition to the opening ceremony, a briefing session on the Neutron Therapy Research Center was held at the Junko Fukutake Hall. Professors Hideki Matsui and Yasuaki Ichikawa of the Neutron Therapy Research Center provided an easy-to-understand explanation of the center’s efforts to an audience of about 100 participants.
The Neutron Therapy Research Center aims to establish an innovative new cancer treatment developed in Okayama that can be exported throughout the world and create a stronghold for the new field of neutron therapy.
