On July 30, Okayama University, led by the Aikido Club, held an international exchange on the Tsushima Campus with students from France who are studying Aikido in Paris.
The exchange was arranged after the city of Takahashi hosted a French Aikido organization in order to promote international exchange. Twenty students from the following universities participated: Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Université Paris 5 Descartes, Université Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis, and Aix-Marseille Université.
On the day of the exchange, visitors joined the Aikido Club members in the Martial Arts Gymnasium No. 2 for their regular practice session. Club members and visitors spent about an hour and half practicing their wooden sword skills and basic Aikido techniques.
Aikido Club members who participated stated, “I couldn't imagine Aikido is so international, but I am happy to share the Aikido philosophy with the people abroad through the practice with them.” and “I was initially worried about the language barrier, but realized it doesn’t matter and we were able to have a good practice session.”
