On October 16, President Hirofumi Makino was visited by a delegation from the University of San Carlos (Cebu City, the Philippines), which signed an exchange agreement with Okayama University on January 25. The delegation members were the Dean of School of Health Care Professions, Ms.Yolanda Deliman, a young faculty member of the Department of Pharmacy, two graduate school (Master's course) students, and two undergraduate students.
The delegation for 7 nights and 8 days under Course A (Science and Technology Experience Course) of the Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science (SAKURA Exchange Program in Science) . During their stay, they visited the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences to see pharmacy curriculum in Japan both its lectures and practices. In the visit to the Department of Pharmacy in Okayama University Hospital, they watched a very well-organized dispensing systems as well as very active professions of the hospital pharmacists. They also visited a community pharmacy and a drugstore in Okayama City. They also have enjoyed off-campus fieldwork activities at Hiroshima and Kurashiki.
President Makino gave a warm welcome to the visiting students and exchanged a lively discussion with Dean Deliman about the expansion and the continuation of the mutual exchanges between two universities in the future.
Ahead of this inviting program, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences sent five undergraduate students (Department of Pharmacy) to the University of San Carlos under a short-term visiting program (from August to September in 2018). Both universities will continue to implement the mutual exchange programs in Pharmacy in the years ahead.
