Okayama University Women's Ice Hockey Club and Okayama University Broadcasting Club reported their achievements at the national championships to President Makino

February 19, 2020

On February 12, the Okayama University Women's Ice Hockey Club and the Okayama University Broadcasting Club reported their outstanding achievements at their respective national competitions to President MAKINO Hirofumi and General Vice President and Director SANO Hirosi (in charge of Education).

The Women's Ice Hockey Club was runner-up for the second consecutive year at the 7th Japan Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Tournament held on November 10th last year. The Broadcasting Club won the first place in the video production category at the 36th NHK National University Broadcasting Contest.

President Makino first conveyed congratulations to both clubs, and spoke as follows, taking the SDGs that our university is working on as an example. "Club activities have elements of diversity and inclusiveness that are mentioned in the SDGs. Students from various faculties and every grade focus on their goals as a team. It can be said that they work together to multiply their individual talents as a team and every member plays an important part. Sustainability, in addition, is also important. I want senior club members to pass along their experience to younger students, like passing the baton in a relay race."

When asked about the story of hard time, the captain of the Women's Ice Hockey Club, YONEDA Mai, said, "Last year's seniors were all good players, so they had the best results ever when they became the runners-up at the Inter College Conference. Despite the uneasy situation after the senior students retired, I was feeling the pressure of being expected as the runner-up team of the previous time. However, I think that with the hard work of this year’s members, we were able to build a team that was more powerful than or the same as last years."

When asked about making a video program as an activity of the Broadcasting Club, SERA Takuto, 3rd year student at the Faculty of Literature said, "As a club, we had participated in the announcement category of this competition for a long time, but it has been only a few years that we have started to focus on the video category. I'm a beginner in video production, but I also made this award-winning work on the theme of "making a movie", referring to the literature class I attended at the Faculty of Letters concerning movies. Our club usually focus on the production of Internet radio programs, but I think this award-winning work was evaluated not only for the video content, but also for the sound quality, so I think my daily activities were also evaluated."

With the participation of IIZUKA Seiya, the Women's Ice Hockey Club advisor and Professor at the Center for Higher Education Development and Initiatives, and head coach, MUROYAMA Nobuyuki, a friendly atmosphere was cultivated. Both groups, who usually have few opportunities to interact with each other, asked each other questions about their activities.
