Move on Sensing/Autonomous Underwater Vehicle named “Momotaro-Okadai No.1” Developed

August 06, 2014

A research group at the Okayama University Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology has developed an autonomously controlled underwater vehicle with the ‘Move on Sensing (MOS)’ system that can remain submerged for long periods of time. This work was a collaboration between Kowa k.k. (Mr. Masami Hiroyasu, president) and the University.

The underwater vehicle has an automatic power feeding system that enables continuous autonomous operation for a long time. ‘Move on Sensing (MOS)’ is a robotic control intelligence developed by the university. MOS has many application areas such as space development, transportation systems, agriculture, and security.

The vehicle is expected to do various tasks as follows:
1. Recovery of radioactive pollutants underwater
2. Deep-sea resource exploration
3. Discovery, recovery, and observation of deep-sea unidentified animals
4. Deep sea floor crustal movement observation
5. Fish firming
6. Mine disposal
7. Life-saving
