Department of Genomics & Proteomics

The Department of Genomics & Proteomics has a recombinant DNA experimentation room and controlled area where radioisotopes can be used. It promotes the support of education and research in advanced science mainly through the following activities.

Department of Genomics & Proteomics
Recombinant DNA experiments

Management of recombinant DNA experiments

In 2004, the Cartagena Protocol was enacted to prevent the effects of use of Living Modified Organisms (LMOs) on biological diversity. Okayama University organized a safety management committee focusing on recombinant DNA experiments in this department to comply with the protocol. We are making efforts to ensure compliance with the protocol in recombinant DNA experiments through educational training and instruction.

Research support by genomics & proteomics analysis

This Department provides research support by comprehensively analyzing all genetic information (genomics) and proteins (proteomics) of living organisms. For this purpose, the latest equipment such as mass spectrometries, inter-biomolecular interaction analysis systems, DNA sequencers and real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) systems have been introduced. We provide research support services in life sciences to Okayama University and outside institutions through shared use of such equipment and requested analysis.
