Message from the Director of the Division
In the Division of Kidney, Diabetes, and Endocrine Diseases, we provide diagnosis, care, and therapy of both common and rare diseases. Common diseases include a variety of life-style diseases such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, obesity, and chronic kidney disease. They are occasionally asymptomatic: patients will be adversely affected by severe complications if they do not receive appropriate care. Please visit our division if you have any concern about your health care.
Director,
Division of Kidney, Diabetes and
Endocrine Diseases Jun Wada
Scope of Target Diseases
The Division of Kidney, Diabetes, and Endocrine Diseases provide specialized care mainly for diabetes, dyslipidemia, kidney disease, hypertension and endocrine disease. For refractory kidney disease that is resistant to existing therapies, we endeavor to improve clinical outcomes using state-of-the-art treatment methods such as blood purification and immunosuppressive therapies. We also specifically emphasize preventive medicine for lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes, which pose a severe public problem. The Endocrine Center was established in 2006 and endocrinologists of our department and surgeons cooperatively provide specialized therapy at the Center. The main target disease are the following: Acute and chronic nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, rapidly progressive nephritis, acute and chronic renal failure, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, obesity, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, acromegaly, panhypopituitarism, hyperthyroidism, parathyroid disease, pheochromocytoma, primary aldosteronism, Cushing’s syndrome, and diabetes insipidus.
Features and Description of Medical Care
Our diabetes care has an established reputation in diabetes care support in close cooperation with the nursing division, pharmacists and nutritionists, strict blood glucose control by insulin pump therapy, early detection and preventive treatment of complications such as nephropathy. For kidney disease, we endeavor to conduct accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatment by kidney biopsy findings for widely diverse diseases that show glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and chronic renal failure. Therapeutic effects have been achieved in patients with nephritis that is refractory, frequently recurrent, or with severe complications by the concomitant use of immunosuppressive therapy and LDL apheresis. For patients with renal failure, renal function is maintained in the conservative period by treatment including diet therapy and blood pressure control. Appropriate care and patient education are provided by specialized staff for the introduction of dialysis (peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis). Diseases of various endocrine organs including hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas, and adrenal glands are treated using a multidisciplinary approach at the Endocrine Center.
The Division of Kidney, Diabetes and Endocrine Diseases and Division of Rheumatic Diseases treats a wide range of diseases from common diseases including diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease to rare and intractable collagen or endocrine diseases. Skillful and well-experienced physicians specialized in each field of Kidney, Diabetes, Endocrine and Rheumatic Diseases collaborate beyond the boundaries of their fields and provide the most suitable tailor-made therapy for each patient.
