The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of Okayama University was established to provide the best surgery for the patients with heart and vascular disease. We have extensive experience with the care of patients with heart and vascular diseases of various kinds. Our policy is to provide comprehensive surgical management for the patients with heart and vascular disease.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a professional model of care for the patients with heart and vascular disease. We aim to provide our patients with the best quality of life. As one of the leading hospitals in the field of Cardiovascular Surgery in Japan, we accept patients from all over the world and provide expert care seamlessly. Of note, we have  been developing our expertise in the field of Congenital Cardiovascular Surgery. We have been providing a world-class surgical management and a lot of children with complex congenital heart disease were able to reach adulthood. Management of adult congenital heart disease is one of our new challenges now. In order to give the best care for these patients, we enhance collaboration and partnership. Also, as a core hospital in the Chugoku and Shikoku areas, we treat the patients with end-stage heart failure using a ventricular assist device. We also accept the patients with acute aortic dissection 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

Our Feature

We are one of the biggest teams of congenital heart surgery in Japan, accepting the patients from all over the world and performing 350 heart surgeries annually. Our team with surgeons, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, nurses, and medical engineers provide expert care seamlessly. We are the designated hospital for acute aortic dissection in Okayama prefecture accepting the patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are also the designated hospital for the treatment of end-stage heart failure using a ventricular assist device.

Patients are seen by experienced physicians who have been trained in Japan and overseas. We thoroughly explain the reason, proposed results, and risks of surgery.
