Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a professional model of care for the patients with congenital heart disease. We aim to provide our patients with the best quality of life. As one of the leading hospitals in the field of Congenital Cardiovascular Surgery in Japan, we accept patients from all over the world and provide expert care seamlessly. Since a lot of our children with complex congenital heart disease reached adulthood, management of adult congenital heart disease is one of our new challenges now. In order to give the best care to these patients, we enhance collaboration and partnership. Another mission is to treat the children with end-stage heart failure as a core hospital in the Chugoku and Shikoku areas. We utilize extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and ventricular assist device (VAD) to treat these patients.

Our Feature

We are one of the biggest teams of congenital heart surgery in Japan, accepting the patients with congenital heart disease 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from all over the world. We perform 350 heart surgeries annually. We provide care for neonates, infants, and children in corporation with Departments of Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Anesthesiology. We have a large experience of Norwood-Sano operation for the patients with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. We have performed more than 200 cases of Norwood-Sano operation with the survival rate of 92% since 1993. We have also achieved the mortality of less than 1% in neonatal cardiac surgery and complex cardiac surgery.
We are dedicated to innovation for solving problems and keeping patient comfort. One of our innovations is minimally invasive cardiac surgery in some simple procedures such as the repair of atrial septal defect and ventricular septal defect using a small right axially incision. Other example is regenerative medicine using autologous heart cells for the patients with single ventricle and reduced heart function.
We are the designated hospital to treat the children with end-stage heart failure using a ventricular assist device.

For outpatient visits

Patients are treated by experienced physicians who have been trained in Japan and overseas. We thoroughly explain the reason, proposed results, and risks of surgery. Patients who are considering a second opinion are welcome to visit the outpatient clinic.
