Message from the Director of the Department
The oral cavity is an important organ that is indispensable for maintenance of life by facilitating feeding and breathing. As a result, malfunctions of the mouth and chin that occurred in a congenital or acquired way are problematic in terms of comfortable living, sometimes causing aesthetic problems. There are aspects that are difficult to consult positively. In a sense, that trouble as well as the pain and discomfort of sickness are signs that the body wants treatment. I am pleased that we will be consulted first in our department and that we will be able to face the disease including the necessity of treatment.

Features and Description of Medical Care
This department conducts medical examinations of oral surgery in general.
It is characterized by the treatment of diseases requiring expertise in oral function such as treatment of mandibular oral cavity growth such as labial cleft palate and jaw deformity and occlusal as dentistry such as maxillofacial injury. We will provide better medical treatment by taking advantage of experience of treatment of this disease so far as a basic medical department of advanced cleft lip and cleft palate center. Partial extension of the anterior portion of the maxilla with respect to cleft palate and fissure disease developed in our department preserves language function, although we are doing surgical correction with various surgical methods including jaw bone extension. It is an excellent treatment for improving dental architecture. Regarding oral cancer requiring multidisciplinary treatment, advanced treatment is done along with members of the Head and Neck Cancer Center.
At Okayama University, the fourth dentistry course was established nationwide as a national university (1949), and became the source of the establishment of the current Okayama University School of Dentistry (founded in 1979). This clinical department is the Department of Oral Surgery, with a domestic history in Japan that draws directly on this trend. Every week Monday and Wednesday as well as Fridays of the first, third, and fifth weeks are initial medical examination days. If you have a letter of introduction to our department, or if you offer a request to see our hospital at our reception desk, we will accept first visits every day from Monday through Friday
