What is the Melanoma Center?

Melanoma (malignant melanoma) is a cancer of high malignant potential that occurs mainly in the skin. Early diagnosis and proper treatment options substantially improve therapeutic effects. The diagnosis of melanoma requires expertise such as dermoscopy, pathologic examination, and genetic testing in addition to clinical observations. The progress of melanoma can be diagnosed accurately by imaging and sentinel lymph node biopsy. Better therapeutic effects can be achieved by selecting treatment options that are suitable for the disease stage. Although melanoma is fundamentally treated by surgery, other treatments such as proton beam, molecular target drugs, and tumor immunity therapy are also becoming available for melanoma in advanced stages. Melanoma treatment has become more specialized. It requires a treatment system that demands cooperation of the related clinical departments. The Melanoma Center was established for that purpose.
