Infectious diseases involves any organs in human, and a comprehensive capacity is necessary for diagnosis and treatment. Many patients with difficult-to-diagnose or intractable diseases visit us via referral, and physicians with expertise, knowledge, and experience with clinical infectious diseases play an extremely important role in our hospital. Thereby, physicians in Department of Infectious Diseases and Department of General Medicine cooperate each other in their clinical practice in the outpatient clinic and in the ward as well.

Message from the Assistant Director of the Department
The motto of our department is that we treat "every infectious disease in all organs." Our hospital sets up the Advanced Critical Care and Emergency Medical Center, and over 10,000 surgeries are conducted per year. Thus, many patients admitted to our hospital are vulnerable to various infectious diseases. We also have many immunocompromised in-patients and out-patients because of organ transplantation and various immunosuppressive therapies. Providing them appropriate prevention and treatment for infectious diseases is indispensable. Based on multidisciplinary cooperation, we contribute significantly to the standardization of infectious disease treatment at our hospital via (i) response to the consultation, (ii) management of patients with infections of the bloodstream, and (iii) proper use of broad-spectrum antimicrobials. Moreover, we are responsible for the management of patients with emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases as the only designated medical institution for Class 1 infectious diseases in Okayama prefecture. We also play the role of a regional core center for the treatment of patients with HIV, and run a Travel Health Clinic for safe travel abroad. Conclusively, our medical practice is diversified to address the needs for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases.

1. Bloodstream infections : infective endocarditis, mycotic aneurysm
2. Central nervous system : encephalitis, meningitis, cerebral abscess
3. Head and neck : sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, lymphadenitis
4. Respiratory : pneumonia, bronchitis, tuberculosis, nontuberculous mycobacterium infection
5. Gastrointestinal : enteritis, cholecystitis, cholangitis, pancreatitis
6. Musculoskeletal : arthritis, spondylitis, iliopsoas abscess
7. Urinary : cystitis, pyelonephritis, renal abscess, prostatitis
8. Sexually transmitted diseases : syphilis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, chlamydia, HIV
Features and Description of Medical Care
We treat "every infectious disease in all organs" in the outpatient clinic, hospital ward, and intensive care unit.
We take initiative in responding to an emerging and re-emerging infectious disease as the only designated medical institution for Class 1 infectious diseases in Okayama prefecture.
We are functioning as a regional core center for the treatment of patients with HIV in Okayama prefecture.
We have established the Travel Health Clinic to provide vaccination required before traveling or staying abroad for study, business, or any purposes, and medical cares in case of ill health on returning to Japan.
We endeavor to provide diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of various infectious diseases. We are confident of the quality of our infectious disease care, which is provided in cooperation with physicians of other medical departments of our hospital as appropriate.
